 GBC Awards for Business Excellence Gala
On June 9th, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will be among the honored guests at the 2008 GBC Awards for Business Excellence Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. The Gala will coincide with the UN’s High-Level meeting on AIDS, and many visiting dignitaries will join us for a reception and dinner. Actress and Grammy Award-winning singer Queen Latifah will host the evening’s festivities. Each year, more than 700 of the key players in the global fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria take part as we honor the best in business action from the previous year and look ahead to collaborations for the future.

 Second Eastern Europe And Central Asia AIDS Conference
The second Eastern Europe and Central Asia AIDS Conference came to a close today at Moscow’s World Trade Center. The largest regional forum to date brought together 2,065 participants from 53 countries representing governmental organizations, NGOs, the scientific and business communities, and people living with HIV. Sessions and seminars that sought to address the main features of the HIV epidemic in the region, including the role of intravenous drug use in the transmission of HIV, the prevalence of HIV-TB and HIV-viral hepatitis co-infections, and the rapid growth of the number of people needing anti-retroviral therapy.

03.21.2008 Training on HIV/AIDS and TB for Journalists in Ukraine’s Cherkasy Region
On March 21st, on the threshold of the World Tuberculosis Day, TPAA/GBC organized a special regional press club meeting on the topic of Ukraine’s HIV/AIDS and TB epidemics, with a special focus on the epidemiological situation in the Cherkasy region. The event gathered 12 journalists and editors from Cherkasy and Cherkaska Oblast, including 2 TV and Radio companies.

On March 21st, Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS/Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (TPAA/GBC) held a regional training in Kaluga for Russian journalists entitled, “On the frontline of the Epidemic: Reporting on HIV/AIDS in Russia.”

The exhibition organized in the framework of the information campaign “StopSPID (StopAIDS): Affects everyone!” took place on February the 27th in the city of Barnaul, Altai region. Visitors were able to view photographic portraits of famous journalists, writers and politics, cinema, music and television stars along with the ordinary people, carried out in the most professional quality by the best Moscow photographers.

An international conference titled “Effective and Evidence-Based Treatment for Drug Addiction in the HIV Era” will be held on February 18 and February 19 in Moscow. The conference is being co-organized by Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS (TPAA) and the Institute for Mental Health Research, in coordination with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Harm Reduction Development, with financial support from the Canadian International Development Agency.
02.08.2008 European Businesses Should Share Best Practices to Develop an Effective Response to the Russian HIV/AIDS Epidemic
Leaders from the European Commission and representatives of top companies operating in Russia urged European companies to recognize the pivotal role they must play in helping to defeat the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Russia, and said are committed to contributing to the sustainable development of Russian society and safeguarding employees’ health.
